ABOUT
BIO
Corey Marsh is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI, where he studied Visual Arts. He has a BA with Honors. Since he was old enough to speak for himself, he has been declaring himself an artist (and he hasn’t shut up about it). A constant visitor of the Worcester Art Museum, he grew up with no shortage of inspiration and excitement for art. Today, he’s moved past the finger paints (for now anyway) and embraces a variety of media and techniques including painting, drawing, collage, lithography, and sculpture. He has exhibited his work in venues including the Bell Gallery and List Art Center, both in Providence, RI as well as the Sprinkler Factory Artist Group in Worcester, MA.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work has become a self-reflective exploration into my own mental health and emotional well-being. Through my body of work, which has included sculpture, performance, paintings, drawings, and hybrids of these disciplines, I have delved into my own head and sought to share its contents with the world. I seek to create a physical manifestation of intangible mental states. Now sometimes the result is whimsical and joyous (who doesn’t love a neon yellow water-bottle cloud raining colorful plastic balls down on them?). Other times, however, it isn’t so pleasant (see my recent Fidget series). But underlying everything is a continuous call to hold on to hope.
Regardless of diagnosed disorders, we all have mental health, yet we don’t always pay it the attention it deserves. My work is my way of bringing that conversation forward through continuous exploration and experimentation with color, line, movement, and bodily imagery. Keep watching. Life is a bumpy, unpredictable ride. One day it inspires a chaotic and fiery room. The next, it gives way to a sexy clown centerfold (maybe it would be best if you just don’t ask about that one).
